The Allergy and Immunology section started in 2000. It offers the newest clinical and lab tests to find and treat allergies and immune system problems. Its goal is to improve patients’ lives with new scientific ideas and caring support.

The person who gets the job will work on vaccine studies. They might find and sign up new people for the studies and help them while they are in the study.

Minimum Conditions:

  • A high school diploma or similar qualification
  • Experience working in a medical or healthcare setting
  • Good understanding of the recruiting locations (Masiphumelele and Oudtshoorn)
  • Understanding of medical words
  • Good at talking to and dealing with people
  • Able to speak English well and another South African language
  • A driver’s license is a plus
  • Good with computers (MS Office, the internet, and managing electronic data is a plus)

Responsibilities Include:

-Find, check, and get agreement from people to be in the study in their community.
-Keep in touch with study people and make sure they come to their appointments.


-Help study people fill out their asthma diaries to keep track of their symptoms and what causes them.
-Teach study people how to check their own health and show them how to keep health records.


-Visit study people at their homes.
-Tell the Research Nurse how the study people are doing and report any problems.


-Gather information and do office work, like filling out forms, putting information into the computer, and checking it.
-Keep a list of information about the study people and write reports on their progress when needed.


-Teach and help study people while they are being checked for the study.
-Teach study people about the studies.


-Drive to places to pick up or drop off study people or papers, as the manager tells you to.
-Make sure samples are handled and taken to the right labs correctly.
-Install and take care of air quality monitors (for individuals and homes) and spore traps in the community.

Additional Information:

  • 12-month Fixed Term Contract
  • Working hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
